Our Story

United is the way we grow.

Since 1974, United Way of Connecticut has empowered residents and communities across the state through trusted partnerships and innovative solutions.

We started with Infoline: a single, consolidated phone resource for residents to access support, information and help. Over the years, we grew to:

  • offer our services 24/7/365
  • collaborate with the state to transform Infoline to 211 – ensuring help was just three digits away
  • expand and administer critical services like Child Care, Child Development, Care 4 KidsConnecticut Paid Family Leave988 and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.
  • become a lifeline during disasters within Connecticut and beyond, connecting people to help and empowering them to rebuild their lives after crises like 9/11, Sandy Hook and Hurricane Katrina.
  • be the one-stop shop for Connecticut during COVID – by providing residents with information on safety protocols, vaccination sites and transportation to services
  • build our role as a thought-leader, providing the state and like-minded partners with real-time, critical data on issues across every Connecticut zip code

And we continue to grow.

We offer live chat and text options to strengthen our ability to respond to an increasing number of people needing information and resources.

The launch of the national three-digit 988 dialing code in 2022 offered an additional opportunity to expand access and awareness of our mental health crisis services.

We link arms with local United Ways to advocate for ALICE , households in Connecticut who are living paycheck-to-paycheck despite working hard at the jobs available to them, and to encourage legislation that will build brighter futures for working families.

Every day, we’re finding new ways to help people in Connecticut thrive.

United is the way we succeed.

Creating a community of belonging is critical to our success. We believe each person on our team plays a vital role, and we strive to ensure everyone feels seen, heard and valued.

In addition to developing leadership styles and creating policies that foster belonging, we are deeply proud of our staff-led committees that strengthen connection across departments, promote the well-being of every team member and celebrate the unique skills and experiences each person brings to our mission.
