2-1-1 Barometer: Barometer
Connecticut's Older Adults

Connecticut's older adult population is expected to double over the next 25 years and account for almost a quarter of the state's population. Ensuring that older adults remain connected to needed resources is essential to community-based strategies for this growing segment of our population. This 2-1-1 Barometer reviews the thousands of calls 2-1-1 receives annually from older adults or their family members for resources and programs designed to assist older adults, including some interesting United Way initiatives aimed at aging in place.

New 2-1-1 Resource Directory
for Veterans and Active Military

In cooperation with Connecticut Department of Veterans Vet Directory of ResourcesAffairs, United Way 2-1-1 has published an online directory of resources for veterans, active duty and National Guard and Reserves. The guide includes information on healthcare resources, available benefits, career counseling and more. Click here for the directory.

Utility Assistance Applications

Connecticut's energy assistance programs provide help to low income households that need help paying for utilities during the winter months. Applications are now being accepted at Community Action Agencies around Connecticut. For eligibility and benefit information on all the programs available dial 2-1-1 or visit the 2-1-1 eLibrary.

Flu Season

October marks the beginning of flu season. This year's vaccine protects against seasonal flu and H1N1. The Centers for Disease Control encourages everyone over 6 months of age to get the vaccine, especially those 65 and older, younger than 2 years and anyone with a chronic health condition. For more information, dial 2-1-1 or visit www.211ct.org, enter your town and "immunizations" under Search by Service Keyword.
