During December, Early Childhood Listening Forums will be held across Connecticut to hear from communities about the needs of families with infants and toddlers about what Connecticut can do to provide a more family supportive system. The forums are being coordinated by the United Way and by the Commission on Children for the Governor's Early Childhood Education Cabinet. For more information, including dates and locations of the listening forums click here.

Medicare Open Enrollment

Medicare brought its new national tour, "Working Together for Better Health," to Connecticut this month. The goal of the tour is to educate Connecticut residents about the health and drug plan options available during Medicare's Fall Open Enrollment period (November 15-December 31st). Medicare information can be found by calling 2-1-1 or visiting http://www.socialsecurity.gov./prescriptionhelp/

2-1-1's e-library also contains a number of briefs on Medicare related issues.

2-1-1 received over 16,500 service request for food assistance information from Connecticut residents.
2-1-1 has already received over 16,500 service requests this year from Connecticut residents needing information on food pantries, soup kitchens, food stamps, and holiday meals. That is 1,000 more service requests than last year. Search the 2-1-1 online database for information on organizations that supply emergency food in your area.

National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month

November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month. Today, more than 5 million Americans are afflicted with this disease. The Alzheimer's Association uses this month to raise awareness of the disease and to honor and support those living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers. The Connecticut Respite Care Program offers primary caregivers the opportunity to receive services and have a care plan developed for an individual with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or other related dementia disorders. For information on this program visit 2-1-1's e-library.

The mission of the United Way of Connecticut is to help meet the needs of
Connecticut residents by providing information, education and connection to services.
