Day of Action

Day of ActionOn Saturday, June 21st, United Ways across Connecticut joined forces for a "Day of Action" to spread the word about one of our state's most valuable resources -- 2-1-1. There are a number of easy ways you can get the word out about 2-1-1: go online to www.211ct.org to see what information is available; tell 5 friends, neighbors or co-workers about 2-1-1; display 2-1-1 print materials at your office or with a civic organization, set up a web link to 2-1-1 for your clients, customers, employees or friends to find help when they need it.

Summer Break Food Services for Children

Statewide, over 150,000 school age children are eligible to receive free and reduced meals during the school year. Those meals programs end when the school year ends, but the Summer Food Service Program is available to ensure that children in lower-income neighborhoods can continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer. Click here for a list of meal sites.

National HIV Testing Day
June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. In 2007, 445 AIDS and 855 HIV cases were reported in Connecticut. National HIV Testing Day is an opportunity for people to learn their HIV status and to gain knowledge to take control of their lives and health. 2-1-1 receives about 500 service requests each year for information on HIV testing. There have been 15,325 cases of AIDS reported in Connecticut since 1980. In 2005, Connecticut ranked 8th among the states in the rate of AIDS cases reported. TV Going Digital? Do You Need to Convert?

At midnight, on February 17, 2009 U.S. television stations will end analog broadcasts and will convert to 100% digital broadcasting. This means that consumers with older televisions that use an antenna will no longer be able to receive programming after February 17. Congress created the converter box program for households that still want to keep their analog televisions in 2009. The program provides up to two coupons worth $40 apiece to apply toward the cost of a digital converter box. Visit TV Converter Box Coupon Program for more information.
