2-1-1 Coverage Growing Nationwide

In 2009, approximately 80% of the U.S. population was able to access a 2-1-1 system. During that year, United Way Worldwide reports that over 16 million calls were answered by 2-1-1s, a 13% increase over 2008. Just as in Connecticut, close to 40% of those calls were for basic human needs such as housing, utilities and food. 2-1-1 has been available to Connecticut residents since 1999 and is currently available in all or parts of 47 states. Over 240 million Americans can now find the help they need or give help by dialing 2-1-1. Dial 2-1-1 or visit www.211ct.org anytime for assistance.

2-1-1 Unemployment Resource Guide

Connecticut ended 2009 with an unemployment rate of 8.5%, the highest in several decades. In 2009, 2-1-1 received over 9,000 requests for information related to job training and job finding assistance. 2-1-1's online guide Where to Turn in Connecticut When you Become Unemployed offers many resources for those seeking employment, job training and basic needs services while they are unemployed.
