2-1-1 Barometer - Access to Health Care

United Way 2-1-1 connects people everyday to information and resources related to physical and mental health care and substance abuse. In 2009, 2-1-1 handled over 90,000 requests for information and services in these areas. This edition of the 2-1-1 Barometer focuses on access to health care and includes a review of data on the uninsured, indicators of health status and resources available through the United Way. Health is one of three main United Way Worldwide system-wide priorities along with Income and Education. The United Way strategy focuses on and attempts to address root causes of health problems. MED-Connect

A specialized service unit of United Way 2-1-1 is now assisting callers who receive or are eligible for Medicaid for the Employed Disabled (MED). The MED-Connect program provides information on MED and also on employment resources available through Connect-Ability (www.connect-ability.com). Connect-Ability assists those with disabilities find and keep jobs. MED-Connect can be reached directly at 800-434-7869 or by dialing 2-1-1.

human services database. Close to 20% of the requests for information to 2-1-1 are for health related issues.

2-1-1 Child Care has launched a new live chat service. Chat directly with a Child Care Referral Specialist via instant messaging. Visit www.211childcare.org and
click on the live chat button to reach a referral specialist who will answer questions and provide information on child care options in Connecticut.
