New Federal Poverty Guidelines

The new federal poverty guidelines have been issued by the Department of Health and Human Services and go into effect on April 1.  The guidelines are used to determine income eligibility for many local, state, and federal programs.  Programs using the guidelines include Head Start, the Food Stamp Program, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, ConnPACE and HUSKY.

Mortgage Foreclosures on the Rise
Lower income homeowners with adjustable rate mortgages may be the most affected by the rise in residential mortgage foreclosures nationally and in Connecticut.  2-1-1 has seen a 34% increase in calls from homeowners facing foreclosure.  2-1-1 can provide valuable consumer, legal and financial assistance information to families.  Learn more about housing assistance programs.

New Online Benefit Eligibility Scanner
United Way now offers 2-1-1 Navigator, an online tool to find out if an individual or family are likely to be eligible for 24 of the most common benefit programs -- EITC, HUSKY, Food Stamps and more.  Over 700 people have already used 2-1-1 Navigator -- try it for yourself!  Let us know what you think -- and we encourage you to link it to your website.
