United Way 2-1-1 Assists Those Who Exhaust
Unemployment Benefits
A recent change in the availability of extended unemployment benefits has caused thousands of Connecticut residents to unexpectedly lose those benefits. To assist these individuals and families, Governor Dannel Malloy has announced a new state plan that will expedite access to social service programs for those affected. As part of the plan, the Governor is urging residents who are facing the loss of benefits to contact 2-1-1. Callers will be screened for SNAP (food stamp) eligibility, health care coverage, temporary financial assistance, utility assistance and other basic need services. Dial 2-1-1 or visit www.211ct.org for assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. |
| United Way 2-1-1 Launches Re-Entry Database |
United Way 2-1-1 has launched a new online search engine to help those released from incarceration and those who work to support them, to find local resources as they re-enter the community. The 2-1-1 Re-Entry Directory of Services available on www.211ct.org, provides a quick way to find resources for food, clothing, employment, health care, support groups and more. The database was developed by United Way 2-1-1 as part of the EPIC (Employment Practices Improvement Collaborative) project, a collaborative effort of Career Resources, Inc., the Department of Social Services' Bureau of Rehabilitative Services and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
