Unemployment Woes Continue

As the impasse over legislation to extend unemployment benefits continues in Congress, Connecticut's Department of Labor reports that jobless benefits for over 15,000 state residents have expired since the start of 2010 and an estimated 500 lose their benefits each week. The state's unemployment rate continues to hover around 9 percent. In fiscal year 2010, 2-1-1 received over 9,000 requests for information related to job training and job finding assistance. 2-1-1's online guide Where to Turn in Connecticut When you Become Unemployed offers resources for those seeking employment, job training and basic needs services while they are unemployed.
