President, United Way of Connecticut

While summertime can mean days at the beach, pool or local park, many parents must catch up on routine tasks such as scheduling back-to-school physicals and immunizations for their children. Dialing 2-1-1 will connect you to HUSKY Infoline Care Coordinators who can answer your questions about how to apply or renew for HUSKY, learn about HUSKY healthcare benefits and connect with your health plan for assistance arranging transportation or setting up medical appointments.

Active Military and Veterans Help and Information

Finding affordable housing, jobs, or health and mental health care can be challenging for anyone. Connecticut's 250,000 veterans, especially those serving and returning from Afghanistan and Iraq, may need these vital community services. 2-1-1 can assist Connecticut Veterans and their families with information and resources.

Connecticut Residents Call 2-1-1 for Help with Substance Abuse
Last year 2-1-1 received over 34,000 calls from Connecticut residents for information and resources about substance abuse issues. Employers looking for information on drug testing, a new mother looking for information on the dangers of secondhand smoke, and an addict searching for a detoxification facility were just a sampling of calls and issues handled.

Supporting Careers in Providing Family Child Care

The decline in licensed family child care providers in Connecticut is creating a burden on working families. 2-1-1 Childcare's Family Child Care Support Project offers newly licensed family child care providers a free professional resource to help them start their child care business. From assistance on business issues such as creating contracts and advertising, to providing resources for communicating with families and guidance on age appropriate activities for children, program staff offer visits to the provider's home, phone and email consultations, information and referrals, resource materials, and follow-up.

The mission of the United Way of Connecticut is to help meet the needs of
Connecticut residents by providing information, education and connection to services.
