21st Century Challenge Initiative

Thanks to a partnership of United Way of Tri-State, United Way of Norwalk & Wilton, and five $1,000,000 donors throughout the Tri-State region, the Healthy Families Collaborative Project has been awarded a total of $600,000 over a five-year period as part of the 21st Century Challenge Initiative. This project, under the leadership of the Norwalk Health Department, is designed to provide a continuum of maternal/child health-care related services for teenagers and women of childbearing age, pregnant women and teens, and mothers and fathers with children ages newborn to five in Norwalk. The project will address issues of timely, regular prenatal care, low birth weight, births to teenagers, child abuse and lack of health insurance as well as other critical pregnancy, birth and early childhood issues.
